PROJECT NAME

SOFT SOFT

DATE

Sept 2021 – Jan 2022

The aim of this module was to explore the pleasures of design and its material or immaterial aspects of softness.

Through a series of rigorous but playful design processes, I tested myself as well as, gathered information and designed meaningful and exceptionally evocative spatial proposals for our urban interiors.

The inspiration came from our urban surroundings, where I experimented with different ways of looking at the city, seeing it not as a harsh or alienating environment, but rather as an open and fluid entity that allows for many readings and interpretations of softness.

After looking into introvert and extrovert as a feature of softness, I decided to research paper as a material and how a soft material can be manipulated into a structure.

I began by experimenting using layering paper so that the material gained stability and was ‘harder’.

After developing a concept of the paper being a flexible material to work with, I decided to use the soft material to create an introverted space. With this, I thought about how a tunnel structure could be used to the entrance of the cinema and how it could attract customers. Below is my plans of how an introverted paper tunnel sits within the site.
